If you're thinking how nice it would be to own a Last Edition Beetle, you may be wondering how to get your clutches onto one of these historically significant vehicles. The answer depends partly on where you live, and partly on the amount (and ratio) of time, effort and money you're willing to expend. The cars are intended primarily for the Mexican market, and export regulations mean you won't get one directly from VW in most countries. In Mexico

If you live in Mexico, you're laughing ! Just stroll down to your friendly local VW dealership with a bundle of readies, and choose your LEB from the forecourt. Around 8000 US dollars should do the trick.

In the United Kingdom

Since European production ended in 1978, Beetle enthusiasts have been importing their own new cars from VW factories all over the world. Here are a few suggestions of where to start.

Beetles (UK) Ltd

Probably the path of least resistance for UK purchasers, you could try Beetles (UK) Ltd. This company imports various VW models into the UK, and provides after-sales services such as parts, insurance and repairs. They are importing 27 Last Edition Beetles, priced at £9999. Another £1000 buys you a right-hand drive conversion.

Advice from the Mexican and Brazillian Beetle Register

Members of the Mexican and Brazillian Beetle Register have been importing their own Beetles from distant shores for many years. If you're thinking of taking a do-it-yourself approach to importing a bug, they're the people to ask for advice. Their annual subscription fee is £12.50, or £15.00 outside the UK, which includes a quarterly magazine featuring technical and general information on Mexican and Brazilian VWs.
